behaviour Consultation
The first step in helping your dog to overcome challenging behaviours.
Your first step to understanding and improving your dog’s behaviour
This initial consultation is focused on helping you understand your dog’s behaviour in a clear and supportive way. It’s a structured, discussion-based session where I meet you and your dog in your home environment and begin to build a practical plan that feels manageable for you.
Together, we’ll look at what’s been happening, when it tends to occur, and—most importantly—why your dog may be responding in that way.
I won’t deliberately recreate or trigger difficult situations during this session. Many behavioural challenges are linked to anxiety or stress, and putting dogs into those situations artificially isn’t helpful and can be overwhelming for them.
Instead, the focus is on building a clear understanding of what’s going on, so that we can move forward with a realistic and effective plan for change.
What's included in the behaviour consultation:
The Questionnaire
I will ask you to complete a short questionnaire to help me better understand your dog, their history and their environment before our first meeting. I will also ask your vet for your dog's clinical history, if appropriate.
The Consultation Session
During the consultation, we’ll take the time to talk through your dog’s behaviour in detail, so I can build a clear understanding of what’s been happening and how it’s affecting both of you. Together, we’ll look at when the behaviour tends to occur, what might be triggering it, and how your dog is feeling in those situations. We’ll also explore how things have developed over time, so we can begin to make sense of it all and put together a practical, tailored plan that feels manageable for you.Where appropriate, I may observe your dog within the home, but the session is not designed to assess behaviour through exposure or testing. The main focus of the session is to help you feel clearer, more confident, and better supported in understanding what’s going on, rather than working through the behaviour itself on the day.
The Report
Following the consultation, I will provide a detailed written report outlining the likely causes of your dog’s behaviour, the factors that may be contributing to it, management advice and recommended next steps. For more complex behaviour challenges, I may recommend Practical Behaviour Sessions. These are optional, booked separately, and are not included in the £145 Behaviour Consultation fee.
The Check-Up
Around 2 weeks after our first session we will arrange a call to check how things are progressing and to confirm the next steps.

How long does the Initial Behaviour Consultation last?
The first consultation typically lasts around 1.5 hours. This allows sufficient time for a thorough assessment and discussion of the action plan.
How much work will I need to do?
Training a dog requires a consistent effort over a period of time. How much and how long completely depends on where you are starting and the outcomes you want to achieve.
How do I know if I need follow-up sessions?
After the Initial Consultation, I’ll recommend whether follow-up sessions are needed based on your dog’s progress and the complexity of the issues. These sessions help ensure ongoing support and adjustment of the action plan as needed.
